Adopting Bridge to Success Content
Bridge to Success content can be delivered as a course, made available to students in open computer labs, incorporated into student success initiatives (such as first-year experience), or promoted as a resource to adults who are considering returning to college.
-
As a course...
The content can be made available as a course to students who have registered for a credit or continuing education course. The content can be customized and delivered within an institution’s learning management system (such as Blackboard, Desire2Learn) or can be accessed directly from the Bridge to Success website.
-
To support first-year experience...
All of the content (or specific modules) can be used to support a first-year experience program, a jumpstart program, or other programs designed to promote student success and retention at two- and four-year institutions.
-
To supplement instructional materials and activities provided in an already existing student success course...
-
In open computer labs...
The content can be made available to students enrolled in specific courses during a class on campus, in a computer lab, or online (or assigned as homework).
-
As a resource for first-time students...
Information about these resources can be distributed to high school seniors or prospective students at orientation sessions, by advisors, in testing/tutoring centers, on a college’s website or schedule of classes, or by other means to promote the use of these materials.
If you would like to use Bridge to Success content for your students as part of this project, please contact David Lascu, Next Gen Project Manager by e-mail at dmlascu@aacc.edu or by phone at 410-777-7078 at Anne Arundel Community College.

Impacting Student Success and Retention Utilizing Open Educational Resources: How to make it happen at your campus, organization, school, or agency! (The Bridge to Success Project)
September 14, 2012 from 10AM to 11 AM EST and September 18, 2012 from 2AM to 3AM EST
The Bridge to Success Project, through the use of two OERs (Learning to Learn and Succeed with Math) has been able to measure student retention impact through tracking learners as they register for Bridge to Success OER courses and through performance in related courses. The goal of the pilots was to target low-income and underserved students and gather monitoring information from instructors, and the preliminary results are very positive.
The Bridge to Success OER content has been designed with scalability in mind. It is derived from proven distance learning material, hosted on an open platform that can be configured for different groups and can be used flexibly. The pilot approach and support provided our first phase of funding covered face-to-face, hybrid (blended) and completely online learning opportunities.
This webinar will share how Bridge to Success materials can help learners prepare for college or a path to college and a career, and how colleges, agencies and organizations can provide new paths to offer students a greater chance of success in their courses; to enable marginalized students to progress in their area of study. Applying these materials and methods at scale will give learners a new way to become effective students, providing a path to higher education.

Have it your way: Remixing and Wrapping Open Educational Resources to Suit Your Learners' Needs.
Presented January 25, 2012 from 10:00AM to 11:00AM EST
Open educational resources are being reused across diverse contexts. In many cases, the original presentation of these resources will not match another instructor or institutions' ideal presentation. For example, there may be differences in the expected learning outcomes, the delivery method, time available, or ability levels. There is a growing wave of tools and support for wrapping and remixing OER content, allowing instructors to design their own versions of materials by adding additional instructions or assignments, supporting group discussion, presenting only a subset of a pre-existing course, or combining a mix of materials from different sources in to one coherent online course. This webinar will introduce approaches and tools, discuss emerging trends and examples, and provide advice on how to wrap and remix, using the Bridge to Success materials as an example resource.

Retention in Distance Education: Are we failing our students?
Presented November 7th, 2011 from 10:00AM to 11:00AM EST
While distance education has been a great success in many ways and is the fastest growing area of education internationally, there's an issue concerning dropout rates that is of major concern. Graduation rates in distance education are far below those in conventional education - sometimes in single figure percentages. What are the effects of this and does it have to be the case?

Facilitating new forms of discourse for learning and teaching: An introduction to the Open University Learning Design Initiative
Presented December 7th, 2011 at 10:00AM to 11:00AM EST
The Open University Learning Design Initiative's approach to the development of a learning design methodology is characterized by a focus on three interlinking aspects of design. First, the use of representational frameworks as a formal means of describing learning activity (whether that be at a task, module or whole program level). Second, mechanisms to encourage the sharing and discussing of learning and teaching ideas, and third, the development of a body of empirical research and conceptual tools to help guide the design decision-making process and to provide a shared language to enable comparisons to be made between different designs.
The methodology aims to enable more effective reflection, refinement, change and communication by focusing on forms of representation, notation and documentation. This hour long webinar will introduce some of the tools and resources developed by the Bridge to Success project, and review how these were used to support the re-design of the open educational resource module 'Succeed with Math'.
